Possible Leasing
In December 2017, Kahukuraariki Trust met with a farming consultant and local farmers that were interested in leasing areas of Waikohatu stream farm. The farming consultant was contacted by the illegal occupiers, the former Landcorp farm manager, saying that it was in his best interest to stay away from Waikohatu Stream farm. This information has been reported to the police.
Illegal Logging
Kahukuraariki Trust were informed two weeks ago that pine trees were being logged, (approximately valued at $100,000) from the Waikohatu Stream farm. This was reported to the police with a newspaper post outlining that prosecutions will be laid against any person/s that illegally take resources from the land that is in the Trust ownership. Permission must be gained from the Trust in the first instance. It is theft removing property from land owned by the Iwi trust.
